When you sign up for a class, be sure to check out the list of supplies you will need to have. In some classes, the yarn selection process is part of the class, but for many classes you need to come prepared with yarn, needles, and gadgets!
For all classes, besides your supplies, keep in mind the common sense niceties that make class a better experience for everyone. Arrive on time - double check the starting time! Avoid wearing perfume to class, as many of our instructors and employees (as well as other students) have allergies. Please turn off your cell phone during class time. You also may wish to take notes during class, and have a folder in which to keep your class handouts.
For Beginning levels of Knit and Crochet classes, you will purchase a ball of variegated cotton and a hook or set of short needles on the day of the class. You will have homework between the first and second week of class!
Intermediate Knitting is a technique oriented class, so you will need to bring yarn and needles to class. Bring 2 colors of worsted or dk weight yarn, and appropiate needles - size 8 or 9 for worsted, or size 6 for dk. You will also want to bring your gadget bag, including a cable hook, if you have one. You will have homework to do before week 2, so check your syllabus!!!!! You will need a chibi or tapestry needle and scissors for week 2. In weeks 3 and 4 you will make slipper socks, which require size 9 or 10 double points, plus 2 balls of Encore. For week 5, wear something fitted and bring a measuring tape and a calculator. Supplies for week 6 are the same as for week 1.
Opinionated Knitter is a 3 project class. For each project, the yarn shopping is part of the class experience! Bring your needle stash, your gadgets - markers in particular - and your sense of adventure! For the Baby Surprise jacket, you may also want to bring odd balls of fluffy, boucle, novelty or ribbon yarn from your leftovers stash.
Entrelac is a technique class. Bring 2 colors of the same weight of smooth yarn, preferrably worsted, and appropriate needles - size 8 or 9 if you use worsted yarn. Short straight needles are sufficient.
Two Color Knitting is another technique class. You have pre-class homework for this one!!! You will need two contrasting colors of smooth worsted or dk weight yarn in wool or a blend. Do not use cotton for class. You will need a 24 or 16" circular needle of a size appropriate to your weight of yarn. Cast on enough stitches to comfortably work in the round, join, and knit 1 or 2 rounds. Do this before class.
Custom Fit Shrug. For this class, you will want to select your yarn before class time. Work up a swatch, and try a couple of different needle sizes to get the feel that you like (separate different needle sizes on your swatch with a garter ridge). Besides your yarn and preferred needles, bring a measuring tape and calculator to class. You will also need lock ring markers during the course of your project. For the second week, you will want a 29 - 36" circular needle for the rib section.
Many of the classes are project oriented classes. Some examples are Huggable Hedgehog, Mitered Square Purse, Crochet Fabulous Afghan, Patchwork Afghan, Lace Shawlette, Mosaic Pillow, Easy Chart House Pillow, and others. For these classes, check the pattern to be used, and get the required supplies before class.
