Directions SIZES: Adult medium (20) and Adult large (22).

MATERIALS: about 100 yds of yarn for the bulkier gauges, to about 175 yds for the dk weight gauge. 16 circular needle and double points in the size to obtain the gauge.

INSTRUCTIONS: Follow the column for your gauge. The first number is for the medium size, the numbers in parentheses are for the large size.

Gauge:         14 sts 4       16 sts =4       18 sts= 4       20 sts=4       22 sts=4

Cast on:       72 (80) sts       80 (88) sts       88 (96) sts       96 (104)sts       104 (112)sts

Join in the round and work in K 1, P 1 rib OR K 2, P 2 rib for 1 1 ½. Continue in stockinette until hat measures about 6 1/2 from the cast on edge (subtract 1/2 in length to make a smaller size, or add 1/2 to make a larger size). Now work decrease section, which is the same for all gauges. Change to double points as needed.

DECREASES
Round 1: *K 6, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 2 and all even numbered rounds: K.
Round 3: *K 5, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 5: *K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 7: *K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 9: *K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 11: *K 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Round 13: *K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Cut yarn, leaving at least a 6 tail. Thread onto yarn needle, and pull though all sts. Tighten up, and weave end in on the inside of the hat.
